One of the most important modifiable risk factors in lifestyle is diet. The role of diet in gastrointestinal malignancies is very important, therefore, it is crucial to identify the high-risk diet in areas with high prevalence of gastrointestinal cancers, especially in the north of the country. This study identified the inflammatory potential of diet in patients referred to Mazandaran Comprehensive Cancer Center compared to the control group. </span></span></span></span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="text-justify:kashida"><span style="text-kashida:0%"><span style="line-height:150%"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="line-height:150%">Materials and methods:</span></span></b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="line-height:150%"> this was a case-control study and included 155 subjects of 77 patients with colorectal cancer referred to Imam Khomeini Hospital, Sari, and 78 controls from the patient&#39;s companions, without gastrointestinal symptoms and previous history of cancer during 2022. They were randomly selected based on the inclusion/ exclusion criteria for age and gender. Food frequency and demographic data were recorded based on a questionnaire and statistical analysis was done with SPSS software and P<0.05. </span></span></span></span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="text-justify:kashida"><span style="text-kashida:0%"><span style="line-height:150%"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="line-height:150%">Findings</span></span></b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span style="line-height:150%">: frequency of pro-inflammatory food consumption was not statistically different.
