Abstract:  
Background: Foreign body ingestion (FBI) is common in emergency departments, often requiring rapid diagnosis and intervention. Endoscopic techniques are the preferred method for safe and effective retrieval.
Case Presentation: A 42-year-old male presented to the emergency department with severe epigastric pain after accidentally swallowing a metallic spoon. He had a history of an undiagnosed psychiatric disorder and showed anxiety and irritability. Radiographic imaging revealed the spoon lodged in the distal stomach. An emergency endoscopy was performed under sedation, successfully retrieving the spoon without complications.
Discussion: This case highlights the importance of timely intervention and the effectiveness of flexible endoscopy in managing impacted foreign bodies in the GI tract. Although rare, metallic object ingestion requires careful evaluation and a multidisciplinary approach to prevent complications such as perforation or obstruction. This case adds to the limited literature on unusual foreign body ingestion and its management in patients with psychiatric comorbidities.
Conclusion: Endoscopic retrieval remains the gold standard for managing GI foreign bodies due to its high success rate and safety profile. Early diagnosis, proper imaging, and skilled endoscopic techniques are crucial for successful outcomes.
